02/21/2009 - Washington, D.C. (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Georgetown Hoyas begin a crucial two- game homestand today, as they entertain the 10th-ranked Marquette Golden Eagles in a Big East tilt at the Verizon Center.

The Hoyas were ranked in the Top 25 for a large part of the season and were thought to be a Big East contender. However, the team has stumbled to just a 5-8 mark in conference play, dropping it out of the national rankings and putting the program's NCAA Tournament hopes in jeopardy. With three straight nationally-ranked opponents in line for Georgetown, it certainly has a chance to make up for a lot of its recent failures. The team heads into this crucial two game homestand, which includes Louisville, on a high note, notching a 65-40 win at South Florida on Wednesday. The triumph put the brakes on a two- game slide and pushed the Hoyas to 14-10 overall.

As for Marquette, it has rebounded from a short two-game skid with back-to- back wins to keep itself in the thick of the Big East race at 11-2. Most recently, the team hosted Seton Hall and emerged with a 79-67 triumph on Tuesday. Now at 22-4 overall, the Eagles return to the road, where they have gone 4-2 in conference play.

Marquette defeated Georgetown, 94-82, at the end of last month, but the Hoyas still cling to a 4-3 series lead.

The Eagles trailed 37-34 at the break, but opened the second half with a 16-3 run en route to a 79-67 victory over Seton Hall on Tuesday. Marquette controlled the boards, 41-31, and converted on 24-of-31 free-throw attempts, in addition to scoring 25 points off 23 Seton Hall turnovers. Wesley Matthews led the way with 24 points and four assists, while Lazar Hayward had 14 points and six boards. Dominic James and Jerel McNeal each turned in 13 points and six rebounds and the duo combined for 15 assists as well. On the season, McNeal has been sensational for Marquette and he leads the team in scoring (19.9 ppg) and steals (58), to go along with 4.7 rpg and 4.0 apg. Matthews has also shown he can finish at a high rate, as he produces a solid 18.6 ppg. Hayward contributes 15.9 ppg and a team-high 8.5 rpg, while James adds 11.9 ppg and a team-best 5.3 apg to the lineup.

The Hoyas knocked home 58.1 percent of their attempts from the floor and held USF to a dismal 31.9 percent shooting effort, as they ran away for a 25-point victory on Wednesday. Georgetown also went 6-of-14 from long distance and 9- of-12 at the foul line, while holding a 37-26 advantage on the glass. Chris Wright scored 17 points and dished out six assists to lead the charge, and Greg Monroe notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. DaJuan Summers chipped in with eight points, and he continues to lead Georgetown in scoring with 14.1 ppg on the campaign. Monroe follows with 13.0 ppg and he also has team highs of 6.8 rpg and 48 steals to his credit. Wright turns in 12.8 ppg and a team-best 3.8 apg for the Hoyas, while Austin Freeman logs 12.3 ppg and 4.3 rpg.
